Options

Choose the original and the changed PowerPoint file, then press Compare.

How to compare two PowerPoint files

  1. Choose the earlier .pptx under “Original PowerPoint file” and the revised .pptx under “Changed PowerPoint file”.
  2. Select “Also compare speaker notes” if needed, then press Compare.
  3. The summary shows changed, added, removed and moved slides and lists order changes. Below it, each slide’s text changes are shown, with ⟦ ⟧ marking exactly what changed.
  4. Download the HTML report or the .diff file to archive or share the result.

Notes

  • Only text is compared, not images, charts, animations or layout.
  • Text on each slide is read in stacking order (back to front), which is also the order screen readers use.
  • Presentations exported to PDF can also be compared with PDF Compare.

Privacy

Files you choose and text you enter are processed in your browser. They are not uploaded to our servers and we do not store them. Some tools download the code or data they need (such as OCR language data) from this site the first time you use them.

FAQ

Are my files uploaded?

No. Reading and comparing happen entirely in your browser; the files never leave your device.

What is compared?

The text in text boxes, placeholders, grouped shapes and tables (each table row is one item) on every slide, and optionally the speaker notes. Text inside images, charts and SmartArt, animations, layouts, fonts and colors are not compared. Slide numbers and dates are left out.

What if slides were inserted, deleted or reordered?

Slides are matched by content. Slides with the same text are paired directly, similar slides are treated as edited versions of each other, and slides whose text is unchanged but whose position changed are shown as moved. If a moved slide was also edited, its changes are listed too. Everything else is an added or removed slide.

Which file do the slide numbers refer to?

"Original slide X" is the position in the original file and "new slide Y" the position in the changed file, counted in slide show order (hidden slides included).

Can I compare .ppt files or password-protected presentations?

No. Save old .ppt files as .pptx in PowerPoint or a similar app first, and remove the open password from protected files.

Can I export the result?

You can download an HTML report with the changes for every slide (open it in a browser or print it), or download or copy a standard unified diff (.diff).
